Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) respects your right to privacy, and we are committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. We do not sell or rent any information you provide to us. The following privacy policy shares the ways in which we collect and use your information.

RMI does not collect any information from you without your knowledge and permission, and we do not ask that you enter any personal information to access or use most areas of However, in order to use some of the tools and functions on our website, such as submitting online donations, we ask that you enter some basic identifying information. RMI does not disclose this information to anyone except as needed to manage our website and database with the help of service providers, who are subject to a nondisclosure agreement. Information you provide RMI is stored in a secure location and is accessible only by designated staff.

Updating Your Information

You can update the information you have shared with us by emailing, calling, or even the old-fashioned way of sending us a letter (please include your address and phone number in written communications). Just let us know what has changed and we’ll keep it up to date. As a part of our RMI family, we’d like to know when you move or have changes in your family, or if you’d just like to hear from us in a different way. If you are one of our donors who makes a monthly recurring donation through a credit card, please let us know when your bank sends you a new credit card with a new number or expiration date so we don’t miss a month in the transition.

If you have opted to receive any of our publications by email, you are able at any time to unsubscribe by clicking a link that appears in the email itself. When you donate to RMI via our website your donation information is encrypted and transmitted via a secure (SSL) connection. RMI uses your credit card information only for the purpose of processing your donation. We will not disclose this information except as necessary to process your donation and we do not store it once your donation has been processed.

Donor Privacy

At RMI, we respect the privacy of our donors and we aim to honor and protect your rights with this privacy policy. It applies to all information received by RMI, both online and offline, whether through electronic, written, or oral communications.

RMI will not sell, rent, trade, or share our donors’ names or personal information with any other entity, nor send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations.

To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.
